1. जब मैं था तब हरि नहीं, अब हरि हैं मैं नाहिं। सब अँधियारा मिट गया, जब दीपक देख्या माहिं॥
Jab mai tha tab Hari nahi, ab Hari hai mai naahin। Sab andhiyaara mit gaya, jab deepak dekha maahein॥
“When I was, Hari (God) was not. Now Hari is, and I am not. All darkness dissolved, when I saw the light within.”
2. पोथी पढ़ि पढ़ि जग मुआ, पंडित भया न कोय। ढाई आखर प्रेम का, पढ़े सो पंडित होय॥
Pothi padhi padhi jag mua, pandit bhaya na koye। Dhai aakhar prem ka, padhe so pandit hoye॥
“Reading books, the whole world died, and none became wise. One who reads the word of love, only he becomes wise.”
3. माला फेरत जुग भया, गया न मन का फेर। कर का मनका डार दे, मन का मनका फेर॥
Maala ferat jug bhaya, gaya na man ka pher। Kar ka manka daal de, man ka manka pher॥
“Turning the beads (rosary), ages have passed, but the mind’s turmoil hasn’t ceased. Drop the beads and turn the mind towards the inner self.”
4. माटी कहे कुम्हार से, तू क्या रौंदे मोहि। इक दिन ऐसा आएगा, मैं रौंदूगी तोहि॥
Maati kahe kumhaar se, tu kya raunde mohi। Ik din aisa aayega, main raundoongi tohi॥
“The clay says to the potter, why do you trample me? A day will come when I will trample you.”
5. कबीरा खड़ा बाजार में, मांगे सबकी खैर। ना काहू से दोस्ती, ना काहू से बैर॥
Kabira khada bazaar mein, maange sabki khair। Na kahu se dosti, na kahu se bair॥
“Kabir stands in the market, wishing everyone well. He has no friends, nor does he bear enmity.
6. साईं इतना दीजिए, जामे कुटुंब समाय। मैं भी भूखा न रहूँ, साधु न भूखा जाय॥
Saanchi itna deejiye, jaame kutumb samaaye। Mai bhi bhookha na rahun, saadhu na bhookha jaaye॥
“O Lord, give me so much that my family’s needs are met. I too do not go hungry, nor do I turn away a sadhu.”
7. बुरा जो देखन मैं चला, बुरा न मिलिया कोय। जो दिल खोजा आपना, मुझसे बुरा न कोय॥
Bura jo dekhan main chala, bura na milia koye। Jo dil khoja aapna, mujhse bura na koye॥
“I went in search of the wicked, but could not find a single one. When I searched my own heart, I found none worse than myself.”
8. कबीरा ते नर अन्ध हैं, गुरु को कहते और। हरि रूठे गुरु ठौर है, गुरु रूठे नहीं ठौर॥
Kabira te nar andh hain, guru ko kahate aur। Hari roothe guru thaura hai, guru roothe nahi thaura॥
“Kabir, those men are blind, who hold their Guru apart from God. If God gets angry, the Guru is there for support; but if the Guru gets angry, there is no shelter.”
9. मोरी चुनरी में परि गई छार, संतों जतन करो मेरा। जो मैं होती पतिव्रता नारी, तेरे रंग में रंगा होती॥
Mori chunari mein pari gai chhaar, santo jatan karo mera। Jo main hoti pativrat nari, tere rang mein ranga hoti॥
“My veil is stained with dust, saints, take care of me. If I were a devoted wife, I would be dyed in your color.”
10. सुर सरिता है साधुजन, हंस हैं साधु संत। कहे कबीर हरि मंदिरा, तेरे बस के अन्त॥
Sur sarita hai saadhujan, hans hain saadhu sant। Kahe Kabir Hari mandira, tere bas ke ant॥
“Saints are like rivers of nectar, swans are the saints. Kabir says, O Lord’s temple, you are beyond the reach of our comprehension.”
